THE HOLLOWS

“Unger is building a sense of place for The Hollows that rivals Stephen King’s Castle Rock for continuity and creepiness.”
News & Observer, Raleigh

When I first started writing about The Hollows, I didn’t think much of it. It was the fictional setting for my novel, Fragile, nestled someplace near New York City geographically, but far from it in every other way. I envisioned it as a small town, the kind of place where “everyone knows everyone” – or thinks they do. During the writing of Fragile, The Hollows started to assert itself. It wasn’t content to be just a backdrop. Much in the same way characters reveal themselves little by little as a story progresses, so it was with The Hollows. It had a personality, an agenda. It didn’t like secrets; it seemed to encourage paths to cross. It wasn’t the backdrop to a story, after all; The Hollows was a character.

These novels are not a series in the traditional sense, because they feature different people and stories. However, they chain link to one another. Each can be read as a standalone, if you choose. But if you are the type of reader who wants to begin at the beginning, here is a roadmap that will give you the richest experience. Just follow the order below, beginning with Fragile.
