So here is a behind-the-scenes publishing thing. When a book is still an uncorrected proof (or galley or ARC as they are sometimes called), its editor or author sends it out to key people to read. I get a lot of these. And I take it very seriously — I always seek to help my author pals, or authors just coming up. I’ve been so blessed; it’s the least I can do. I can’t read everything. There simply aren’t enough hours in the day to parent, write, read, live, etc. So I know how much it takes to read, and to craft appropriate words of support. It’s not as easy as you think.
