You might be thinking: I’ve heard about Lisa Unger, but I don’t know where to start reading! Or, I just read one and loved it, but I’m not sure what to read next? At least we hope that’s what you’re thinking since you’ve dropped by for a visit. Lisa’s novels are all very character-driven. Some of them are traditional mystery thrillers, some explore dark psychological themes, some even flirt with unexplained phenomena — like psychics and the paranormal. So, we have come up with this fun quiz to help you choose your next book. What kind of reader are you?
I like books that keep me off-kilter and guessing from one minute to the next what’s real and what’s not real. Unreliable narrators? Bring it on!
If you answered Yes, you might start with CRAZY LOVE YOU, IN THE BLOOD, or BLACK OUT.
If no, then read on!
I like a traditional thriller with a fast-paced plot that never lets me catch my breath. I DO want twists and surprises — but not too many surprises — oh, my heart!
Yes? Perfect! Don’t miss the new thriller THE RED HUNTER, then enjoy BEAUTIFUL LIES followed by SLIVER OF TRUTH, or DIE FOR YOU.
Still not for you? Okay. Keep reading!
I enjoy a little romance with my action packed thriller. What’s wrong with a little more love in the world?
If you answered yes, try HEARTBROKEN, DIE FOR YOU or BEAUTIFUL LIES. Although, fair warning, if you are looking for traditional romantic suspense, this ain’t it.
No again? Okay, really? Not into that either? Don’t give up!
I really want to be deeply involved with the characters, to learn about their lives and histories. Aren’t we all a little voyeuristic at heart?
Yes? Great! You might especially enjoy THE RED HUNTER, FRAGILE, DARKNESS, MY OLD FRIEND, HEARTBROKEN and the novella THE WHISPERING HOLLOWS
No? Still nothing? How about this?
Dark thrillers that explore unusual themes fascinate me. I’m no wimp! I want to be scared and do a little thinking, too.
If you said yes, good for you! All of Lisa’s novels fit this description. But we think you’ll enjoy the early Lydia Strong series ( ANGEL FIRE, THE DARKNESS GATHERS, TWICE, SMOKE ) along with THE RED HUNTER, INK AND BONE, CRAZY LOVE YOU and IN THE BLOOD.
No??? Come on!
I find that a bit of a supernatural element to my thrillers, a little veering off the traditional path into the unexplained, is exciting and fresh. I am always up for new experiences and grand adventures. I’m going zip-lining after this!
That sounds like you? The books set in The Hollows will be PERFECT for you: FRAGILE, DARKNESS, MY OLD FRIEND, CRAZY LOVE YOU, THE WHISPERING HOLLOWS and INK AND BONE.
You, the difficult one, just keep going. We’re going to find something for you!
I want to close the cover on a book and know that everything is resolved, no questions asked. I have enough problems! I don’t want to think about fictional ones!
Many of Lisa novels “chain-link” to each other, connected by character, by her fictional town The Hollows, or by theme. So, it’s not unusual to find dangling threads that will connect you to other stories. If you like stories that stand completely alone, try THE RED HUNTER, HEARTBROKEN (Jones Cooper cameo but, other than that, no links to other books), DIE FOR YOU, or BLACK OUT.
No? Well, one more chance!
I like a book that keeps me thinking and wondering, even after the cover is closed. After all, books are life and the unexamined life is not worth living! Yes? You are definitely in the right place! Lisa loves it when you can’t sleep because you aren’t able to stop thinking about what you just read! All of her books will keep you thinking long after the story has ended. But for you, we especially recommend INK AND BONE, CRAZY LOVE YOU, or IN THE BLOOD
No? Oh, you’re just being cheeky! I know there’s something for you here. And if not, be sure to check your local library or bookseller and ask a nice librarian or salesperson for her recommendations! Good luck!
We hope you enjoy Lisa’s novels. We think you will! If you do, please spread the word on social media and bookseller sites. There’s nothing nicer you can do for an author than let folks know about her books. Happy reading!
